The queen of the south and singer on the pursuit of happiness are two of the faces you can expect to see in director Luca Guadagnino’s latest project. We Are Who We Are is Guadagnino’s first venture into television.

Guadagnino is, of course, known for his work on the likes of Call Me By Your Name, Suspiria and more.

HBO’s synopsis for the coming-of-age eight-episode series reads: “A story about two American kids [Jack Dylan Grazer as Fraser and Jordan Kristine Seamón as Caitlin] who live on a U.S. military base in Italy, the series explores friendship, first love, identity, and immerses the audience in all the messy exhilaration and anguish of being a teenager—a story which could happen anywhere in the world, but in this case, happens in this little slice of America in Italy.” The latter perhaps due to the director’s background.

The cast is a mixed, fun bag. Momma-to-be Chloë Sevigny and Brazilian actress Alice Braga play Sarah and Maggie respectively—a military couple who parent Fraser. Kid Cudi, on the other hand, is a literal daddy in this one. The artist plays Caitlin’s father, Richard.

Below is the trailer, which gives away little to nothing about a show that, come late Summer, may be everything:
