If you like hockey, or queer romance, or both, you’re in luck! The new “it” show, Heated Rivalry, which focuses on the romance between rival hockey players Shane Hollander (Hudson Wiliams) and Ilya Rozanov (Connor Storrie), is coming to HBO Max Latinoamérica.
Fans had been waiting for an official announcement about the show’s release in Latin America, and HBO Max finally confirmed when the show would be available, starting in February. No specific date has been announced yet. And there’s still no confirmation of whether this means it will be available in all countries in Latin America on the same day.
The X account for HBO Max Latinoamérica, which includes countries from Mexico to Brazil, tweeted the news with a video of the first episode of the show, featuring one of Shane and Ilya’s first meetings. There’s a lot of sexual tension in the video, and the two aren’t even a thing yet. And fans were predictably very excited about the news, and about the fact that the show’s release in Latin America means Spanish and Portuguese subtitles, depending on the territory.
Heated Rivalry is an adaptation of the second book in the Game Changers series by Canadian author Rachel Reid. The book follows Shane and Ilya as they meet, become friends with benefits, and then fall in love, while playing at being rivals in public. The show, a Canadian production for Crave, became a massive surprise hit for HBO Max, which bought international distribution rights just one week before the premiere.
The show was #1 on HBO Max charts in late 2025, and became the top-rated non-animated acquired series on HBO Max since it launched in 2020.
