Marvel’s Agatha All Along has finally released its first official teaser trailer and gave fans an exciting look at both the story of the WandaVision follow-up and the character that would be joining in on Agatha’s journey for power. The trailer also included the debut of the mysterious witch known as Rio Vidal, played by Aubrey Plaza.

The series has Agatha Harkness, played by Kathryn Hahn, gathering a coven of witches to try and get back the power that Wanda Maximoff stole from her. But it appears before even Agatha noticed she was trapped, Rio Vidal was the one to notice and help break the spell. Appearing to her in a morgue, Plaza’s character tells Agatha to “claw your way out” from the spell. What follows is Agatha flickering between her various personalities before remembering herself.

According to a Deadline interview with Plaza, Vidal is a character that Plaza described as a warrior witch. At the time she was working on both Marvel‘s Agatha All Along and Megalopolis. And because they were on the same lot, she could easily go between both projects on the daily.

She said, “I would literally go from one to the other and would put my Wow wig on and my Wow costume on. And then the next day, I would go to the Agatha set and I’d be dressed as a warrior witch with a dagger and stuff.” At the 1:40 mark in the official trailer you can see Plaza’s Vidal fighting someone.

There are also unverified rumors from last year that Vidal is also Agatha’s ex.

Another aspect of Rio Vidal that’s interesting is that she’s rumored to be a “green witch,” a title that, up until this point, had no meaning in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, in regards to the comic, specifically James Robinson’s Scarlet Witch series, color-coded magic users were common and even necessary to maintain a balance. In the official trailer you can see Plaza in a green dress and hood at 1:20 and 1:35 mark.

Rio Vidal also has no comic book counterpart.

Agatha All Along premieres September 18, 2024 on Disney+.
