Ariana Greenblatt has been a breakout name in Hollywood ever since millions saw her in Avengers: Infinity War, where she played a young Gamora. Since then, the Puerto Rican and Jewish actress has been a part of some of the industry’s biggest franchises, from a young Rosario Dawson in the Disney+ series Ahsoka to the daughter of Gloria (America Ferrera) in Barbie. Now, Greenblatt will take on the role of fan-favorite character Tiny Tina in the upcoming movie adaptation of Borderlands.

The Borderlands video game was released in 2009 as a first-person action-adventure franchise. It followed a group of Vault Hunters on an alien planet called Pandora, looking for a fabled vault to hold a massive treasure. The planet itself was a desolate wasteland not unlike the world of Mad Max: Fury Road. Following the franchise’s success, three sequels were released, Borderlands 2 being the debut of Tiny Tina.

After her parents are sold and killed by a man named Flesh-Stick for a weapons experiment on Pandora, Tiny Tina is left alone. Though her mind was slightly fractured due to the ordeal, she managed to survive. With revenge on her mind, she became an adept explosives specialist and also grew close to a soldier named Roland. Though she may act chaotic, she’s since become a valuable ally in the franchise who set the player off on many missions.

The trailer for Borderlands offered up a first look at Tiny Tina. One of the highlights was when Tina threatened to blow up a group of enemies and did a forward flip towards a plunger that blew up a barricade. Another instance was where a woman threatening her with a weapon was met with Tina holding a rocket launcher and proclaiming, “Mine’s bigger.”

Ariana Greenblatt is joined by Cate Blanchett, Jack Black, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Kevin Hart.

Borderlands is set to hit theaters on August 9, 2024.
