The future of the Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang dojos is unclear as we enter the fifth season of the popular Netflix series Cobra Kai.

At the end of Season 4, Cobra Kai won first place (by bribing referees?) at the All-Valley Karate Tournament when Tory Nichols (Peyton List) defeated Samantha LaRusso (Mary Mouser) in their championship match. Does this mean that Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang can no longer operate as dojos? Will Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) be forced to give up their sensei roles?

In the first teaser trailer for Season 5, which reveals a premiere date of September 9, 2022, Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) is celebrating his dojo’s victory at the tournament and looking forward to the expansion of Cobra Kai.

“Today is a turning point at Cobra Kai,” Terry said. “Our competition has closed up shop. And the only thing better than a full dojo is a whole valley of full dojos.”

Daniel, however, is not about to give up. He has recruited his former nemesis Chozen Toguchi (Yuji Okumoto) to help him stop Terry from “putting kids in harm’s way” with his dangerous training techniques.

Meanwhile, Johnny has taken his son Robby Keene (Tanner Buchanan) to Mexico to bring back Miguel Diaz (Xolo Maridueña) who is looking for his estranged father. Miguel’s mother Carmen (Vanessa Rubio) had already told her son that his father isn’t a good person, but hopefully, screenwriters don’t take the easy way out and make him into a stereotype.

While Miguel takes care of his personal issues (and the actor spends time on Blue Beetle), Daniel seems to know what it’s going to take to get rid of Cobra Kai once and for all: “There’s only one way to end this,” he said. “We have to cut the head off the snake.”
