After a 14-year hiatus, the popular Mexican anthology TV series Mujeres asesinas (Killer Women) is said to be returning for a fourth season. The psychological thriller series, which is adapted from an Argentine series of the same name, was produced by Televisa and ran on Univision in the United States from 2008 to 2010.
Last month, producer Luis Luisillo hinted that the series would be returning when he tweeted a photo of a TV monitor with an image of blood on a floor. “Accomplishing goals,” Luisillo wrote. “Tick Tock. #MA.”
Mujeres asesinas follows the employees of the Departamento de Investigacion Especializado en Mujeres (Department of Investigation Specializing in Women) as they attempt to track down a series of female murderers, many of whom committed their crimes for revenge. Some of the actresses who portrayed the killers in the first three seasons included Leticia Calderón (Esmeralda), Verónica Castro (The House of Flowers), and Jacqueline Bracamontes (Rubí).
Now, fans are talking about which women they would like to see join the cast for the upcoming season. One actress that continues to be mentioned is Yalitza Aparicio. In 2018, Aparicio made her film debut in Alfonso Cuarón’s Roma, which landed her an Oscar nomination for Best Actress. She was only the fourth Latina ever to be nominated in the category and the first since Catalina Sandino Moreno (Maria Full of Grace) in 2004.
Other actresses whose names are circulating online include Ana Layevska (Guerra de vecinos), Silvia Navarro (La suerte de Loli), Claudia Martín (Los ricos también lloran), Adriana Louvier (Caer en tentación), Sara Maldonado (Las Malcriadas) and Macarena García (Paraíso).
Yalitza Aparicio will next be seen in AppleTV+’s first-ever Spanish-language series Familia de Medianoche (Midnight Family). The series is based on the 2019 award-winning documentary of the same name about a family of paramedics who run a private ambulance business.
