Zoe Saldaña got incredibly emotional as she won her first major award for her role as Rita Mora Castro in the film Emilia Pérez.

Saldaña even interrupted the music that tried to cut off her speech as she kept thanking people, including her family, particularly her mother who was her date to the Golden Globes, and her husband and sons. The actress also thanked the women of the film, who she said she was sharing the award with.

The movie had a total of 10 Golden Globe nominations, making it the most nominated film of the year. It was Saldaña’s first nomination. Fellow Emilia Pérez actress Selena Gomez was also nominated in the Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture category.

In Emilia Pérez, a musical crime comedy, written and directed by Jacques Audiard, who Saldaña also thanked, she plays a lawyer, Rita Mora Castro. Her character receives an offer from the head of a cartel who wants to undergo gender-affirming surgery and begin living an authentic life. Rita helps, but years later, when Emilia wants to get back in contact with her children, things get very, very complicated.

“Thank you so much to the Golden Globes for celebrating our film and honoring the women of Emilia Pérez,” Saldaña said, calling all the nominees in her category “magic.” She also said, “Adriana, Edgard, and Selena, I’m sharing this with you,” before telling Karla Sofía Gascón that no one else could have played Emilia. “Eres unica. Reina,” Saldaña added tearfully.
