Remember this crash course in Mexican history before you down those shots of tequila: it’s the anniversary of the Battle of Puebla, a small town in Mexico whose citizens fought off a battalion of French soldiers despite being outnumbered 2 – 1, in 1862. The country‘s 4th of July is the 16th of September. The “holiday” is also more popular in the U.S. than in Mexico and is more of an excuse to sell alcohol (re: St. Patrick’s Day).
