There’s nothing iconic country music singer and songwriter Dolly Parton hasn’t done during her illustrious career – except performing in a musical about Taco Bell’s Mexican Pizza.
Yes, Parton may have countless awards, a collection of No. 1 albums and songs, and be enshrined in the Country Music Hall of Fame. Still, it seems the “Jolene” crooner won’t be truly fulfilled without singing about the popular Taco Bell menu item, which was discontinued in 2020 and will be returning after public outcry after 18 months.
That’s precisely what Mexican Pizza: The Musical is all about. It’s a satirical musical that tells the story of people’s efforts to get the food item back on Taco Bell’s menu. Parton was one of the handful of famous names that urged Taco Bell to bring the Mexican Pizza back. Ultimately, it will return to the fast-food restaurant next week.
“They used to make a little Mexican Pizza… I love that,” Parton told Insider earlier this year, adding that she thought they should bring it back.
It is unknown how many songs will be included in the musical, but Parton won’t be singing alone. She will be joined by Doja Cat (who announced the Mexican Pizza return at Coachella), Abigail Barlow, and Emily Bear. While Parton and Taco Bell posted photos of a Playbill cover for Mexican Pizza: The Musical, the show will not be performed on Broadway.
Mexican Pizza: The Musical will premiere for free on TikTok on May 26, 2022. Taco Bell’s Mexican Pizza will be back on menus on May 19, 2022.
