FOOD: La Churreria Gives Churros a Home

New York churro-lovers rejoice. (No explosions here.) A quaint, countered eatery dedicated to specializing in this fried Latin doughy dessert makes its debut downtown on Thursday, December 29th. La Churreria, headed by Jesus Manso of renowned Socarrat Paella Bar, offers these sweet sticks stuffed in paper cones or on a proper plate (though a fork and knife are hardly necessary). Kick it old school with this classic crispy treat covered in cinnamon sugar, or get snazzy with a chocolate coating (or filling for the fatter fritters). At 3 for $3, the revered churro finally gets the respect it deliciously deserves, abandoning the cart wheels for a chic place of its own.
