It’s Saturday morning and all you can think about is how many chorizo and egg tacos you want to order from your local taqueria. The problem is, being stuck in the house because of a pandemic hasn’t really allowed you to get the exercise you need, so your waistline has been expanding steadily over the last few months. What’s a taco lover to do?

Meet Anthony and Ronald Alcazar, brothers and owners of the Los Angeles-based company Mr. Tortilla. If you’re really looking for an alternative to those flour tortillas you like to scarf down for breakfast, how about a healthy version instead?

The Alcazar brothers have created the one-carb tortilla, which is only 15 calories and is made with non-GMO flour, healthy oat fiber and are 100% vegan, low fat and sodium and contain no cholesterol.

“The challenge was that we had to make a tortilla that could hold a whole entire taco,” Ron says in an interview with Beond TV. “It took years of development to…finally get it ready. The response has been beyond anything we could have ever imagined.”

Recognizing that they probably couldn’t go head-to-head with the biggest tortilla
companies, the Alcazar brother started to sell their tortillas exclusively online. The decision turned out to be a great one for the budding entrepreneurs.

“The tortilla industry is so competitive…that we couldn’t penetrate the market,” Anthony says. “The shelf space was theirs. What we had to do was get creative and innovative.”

According to the brothers, 20 tacos consumed with their one-carb tortilla equals the same
amount of carbs as a single street taco. No need to feel any tortilla guilt on Taco Tuesday anymore.
