After much ado, the latest Calexico outpost is set to open on Fifth Avenue in Park Slope this January. The Greenpoint location of the California-meets-Mexico taco joint has been a staple here at Remezcla for some much needed lunch time cheesiness. What started off as three gringos craving their Cali-Mexican food after moving to New York, led to a food cart (then two more), a Vendy Award for Best Street Food (2008) and restaurants in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Plans for a large bar with an expanded liquor menu, craft beers and a weekend brunch menu are in place. We hope the brunch menu will fare better in this location–last we heard, people were leaving the Greenpoint location once they realized they couldn’t get their Chipotle Pork Tacos! Go figure.
