Momofuku and David Chang are finally getting in on the pupusa game. Chang, who has previously proclaimed his love for pupusas, has started offering the Salvadorian staple this week during lunch at his DC ramen eatery, according to the Washingtonian.
His versions include one stuffed with spinach, artichokes, and his trademarked hozon seasoning, as well as one with spicy Szechuan brisket. They are served with black beans, and kimchi curtido, and come at a $12 price tag.
When he first opened Momofuku CCDC, Chang had planned to include pupusas on the menu but had to scrap them at the last minute (according to him, they just didn’t taste good enough to pass muster). Chang has previously proclaimed to be “fucking infatuated with fucking Salvadoran cuisine,” and it looks like he’s finally gotten his pupusa game up to par, because Washingtonian reports that Momofuku CCDC will now be launching Pupusa Mondays.
How they will compare to the DC area’s vast and excellent Salvadorian food offerings is TBD. If you’ve tried them, sound off in the comments below!
