A lot of stuff happened in 2013: NYC got an MTV reality show (Washington Heights), a new mayor, and a whole lot of Citi Bikes. We had to explain to the world that Baauer’s “Harlem Shake” meme did not, in fact, resemble the Harlem Shake at all. We lost the New York International Latino Film Festival (and we’re still mourning) but we got the VMAs at the Barclays Center (although Miley’s twerk travesty happened, so we kind of broke even there….). On a larger scale, Hugo Chavez lost his battle with cancer, Brazil stunned the world with massive protests, Latinos made strides at the box office with “Instructions Not Included” (now the highest-grossing Spanish language film in North America), and Julian Assange camped out in the Ecuadorian embassy. And that’s just the stuff that we can think of off the top of our heads.
2013’s not over yet – and who knows what else might go down before the year is through. Still, it’s never too early to start planning for your holiday/New Year’s eve festivities. From parties to concerts to dinners to open bars and comedy – and everything in between – we’re compiling the best events to close out 2013 and ring in 2014.
