We’ve been fans of husband-and-wife team Felipe Donnelly and Tamy Rofe ever since they were throwing dinner parties for strangers in their TriBeCa apartment – an experiment that became so successful it led to the opening of their SoHo pan-Latin restaurant Cómodo, and later, restaurant Colonia Verde in Fort Greene (which became a brunch favorite for our Creative Director Francisco Outon). The duo’s backgrounds – Felipe was born in Spain to a Colombian mother and lived in both Brazil and Mexico, and Tamy was born and raised in Mexico – contribute to the unique fusion of flavors they’ve woven into their menus.
So we were pretty bummed out when the restaurant caught fire in February, just days before its one-year anniversary, and was forced to close for an indefinite period of time. Thankfully, Grub Street reports that the restaurant will finally be ready to reopen on June 23, with brand-new bar and restaurant menus, and, from the looks of a recent drive by, a new façade as well.
The folks over at NY Mag made a short video about the restaurant’s road to recovery, and the support they’ve gotten from the Fort Greene community. It’ll give you the Mr. Rogers wonderful-day-in-the-neighborhood warm and fuzzies.
