Even though Thanksgiving is not traditionally celebrated in Latin America, here at Remezcla we’re big fans of any holidays that revolve around food and days off from work. Most of us will be spending the time off with our family and loved ones, but for those Thanksgiving orphans – or those who are simply not cooking-inclined – we rounded up a list of places where you can get a Día de Acción de Gracias dinner with sabor.
65 2nd Avenue New York, NY 10003 (212) 677-4096 This East Village spot, which focuses on Latin American tapas with a strong Peruvian influence, will feature a special 3 course Thanksgiving menu and 2 hr open bar for just $55 a person. Their regular menu will also be available.
AGOZAR 324 Bowery New York, NY 10012
This Cuban restaurant and lounge will be serving a 3-course prix fixe menu for Thanksgiving, including their signature Cuban lechon asado.
172 Bleecker Street New York, NY 10012 A staple in Spanish food in Greenwich Village since 1976, this small eatery offers traditional Spanish cuisine and an extensive Tapas menu. For Thanksgiving they are offering a 4 course turkey dinner special for $19.95.HAVANA CENTRAL AT THE WEST END
2911 Broadway New York, NY 10025
Modeled after pre-revolution Cuba, this eatery has an old-world vibe, with jazz, swanky decor, and classic dishes. In addition to their regular menu, they will also offer a special Latin Thanksgiving menu including: Latin lasagna, Cuban turkey, chorizo stuffing, and pumpkin flan.
99 1st Avenue New York, NY 10003
Classic Peruvian dishes are the focus at Mancora, which serves Lima’s famous ceviche and a decent Aji de Gallina – traditional chicken stew drenched in a creamy yellow sauce and garnished with sliced potatoes, hard-boiled egg, and olives. For Thanksgiving, they will serve a 3-course prix fixe menu for $25.
1063 1st Avenue New York, NY 10022 Yes, Rosa Mexicano is a chain, and we’re usually suspicious of the whole mass-market generic food thing. But Rosa Mexicano’s corn tortillas made on site, guacamole prepared tableside, and frozen pomegranate margaritas dispensed from a Slurpee machine won us over. The price tag is a bit on the higher side, but no time like the holidays to treat yourself! For Thanksgiving Rosa Mexicano will feature Slow-Roasted Yucatan Turkey and Pumpkin Creme Brulee, among other offerings.
