He might have a tough-looking exterior, but actor Danny Trejo is nothing but a big softie–especially when it comes to his love for dogs.

In fact, last Wednesday (Feb. 24), after two of Lady Gaga’s French bulldogs were stolen and her dog-walker shot, Trejo went on Twitter to let his Machete Kills co-star know that he was on the case.

A couple of days later, he made sure people understood that he and his posse were not “busting down doors” and clarified that “we just know people that deal with dogs.” Luckily, on Saturday (Feb. 27), Gaga’s two dogs, Gustav and Koji, were found unharmed in an alley by a woman and taken to the LAPD where they were reunited with Gaga.

Trejo’s chivalry, however, was not overlooked by several people who were happy he cared so much about Gaga’s pups. Actor Patton Oswalt (The Secret Life of Pets 2) even chimed in to express how much he would like to see a movie based on Trejo hitting the streets to search for the stolen doggos.

If you follow Trejo on Instagram, you know that he is a dog owner himself and has rescued several of them over the years. It’s not just a couple of pooches he has either. If Trejo wanted to put together a dog sledding team, he probably could.
