When Thalía presented herself to the world as a solo singer in 1990, she made quite the statement. For her self-titled album, she wore a black bra and shorts combo that was a far cry from the Thalía Sodi people knew from Timbiriche.

Though she went underwent a makeover of sorts, it’s not to say that Thalía didn’t play with fashion before that. As a matter of fact, her Timbiriche looks – with big plastic earrings, teased hair, red lipstick, and shoulder pads – epitomized 1980s style. But as the 1990s arrived, so did the new Thalía.

Her new look featured elaborate stage costumes, complete with mesh leotards, Egyptian-inspired headpieces, Flamenco boleros, and flower-power crop tops, which, honestly, we’d wear today. Check out some of her most iconic looks, and learn how you can get them yourself.

Hearts and leather

With the many all-black looks Thalía wore on stage, we learned of her penchant for leather. On one occasion, she wore an all-leather look adorned with red heart details.

Rockera

Thalía’s brief rocker phase was epic. In this picture, she wears a leather jacket, embellished hat, motorcycle gloves, and of course, an electric guitar.

Cropped

In the 1990s, Thalia wore crop tops like they were basic T-shirts. This all-white look, featuring pearl-fringed boots and a semi-voluminous skirt, is eye-catching, and the top is easy to adapt into your own wardrobe today.

Morado dreams

Full-on purple looks re tricky to pull off, and if you mix that with metallic gold shorts, the equation becomes more complicated. And yet, Thalía did that.

Metallic

Thalía embraced all sorts of shiny materials, including this metallic body-con dress, which is pretty robot chic.

The bolero

Thalía never did boring boleros. Whether ranchera-inspired or Flamenco toreras, she knew how to combine them with the best ’90s fashion. This look called for a ruffly pink bolero, metallic (told you she’s a fan) strapless top, and high-waisted jeans in a light wash.

Flower power

From shorts and dresses to headbands and hats, yellow flowers had an extensive presence in the 1990s. So of course, Thalía jumped on the trend, but of course, she took it to another level. In a photo shoot, she wore a flowery leotard and matching stole.

As we’ve continued to see over the years, mesh is a versatile and fun fabric. And a bright blue mesh bodysuit – like the one Thalía wears here – is totally suitable for your next night one. If you want to channel this look even more, pair the leotard with chunky white jewelry.

Thalía showed that her love for flowers couldn’t be contained with this voluminous floral crop top. She completed the look with fingerless gloves, black jeans, and layered necklaces.
