This week, the Democratic National Committee sent out an email criticizing President Donald Trump. However, its choice of words has upset the internet. Allan Smith, Business Insider’s senior politics reporter, shared part of the email in a tweet, which discusses “Trump’s Empty Promises on Border Wall.”
“Trump has failed to deliver on his signature promise to build a border wall and have Mexico pay for it,” the email reads. “Trump even admitted in a private conversation with Mexico that his border-wall promise was ‘the least important thing.'”
Presumably, the email intends to call out Trump for lying about his biggest campaign promise and turning his back on his biggest supporters. However, the DNC is being criticized on all sides because of the small excerpt, which has now made its way around the internet. Some believe the DNC’s words suggest that Trump should do more to build the wall. And according to Death and Taxes, the rest of the email includes links to articles that point out that Trump has yet to fulfill his vow to build the border wall, which would have such devastating consequences. Others wonder if this message needs to exist at a time when racial tension and violence has become front page news.
