After Trump’s Shocking Win, Immigrants Vow to Keep Fighting With #HereToStay Hashtag

On Tuesday night – as it became increasingly clear that Donald Trump had secured the highest office in the land – undocumented immigrants refused to feel defeated. Throughout his alarming presidential campaign, Trump has threatened to deport 11 million undocumented immigrants and to build a wall between Mexico and the United States.

He’ll soon set the tone for what the next four years could look like when he picks the ninth Supreme Court Justice, essentially deciding the fate of President Barack Obama’s Deferred Action for Parents and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA). With so many people’s lives hanging in the balance, there’s enough despair to go around.

However, while people are heartbroken and fearful, Trump’s victory has also reinvigorated their fight. Through the hashtag #HeretoStay, immigrants (as well as their allies) explained why they won’t leave the place they’ve made their home and why they won’t give up.
