On Sunday, PopSugar Latina published a piece originally titled Kylie Jenner Is Basically a Mix of All Your Favorite Latina Celebrities (they’ve since updated the headline twice). And while there’s nothing wrong with pointing out instances when mainstream celebrities draw inspiration from our people, this was a pretty big stretch.
The article compared Jenner’s style to Selena among others, and slapped a headline on that implied that wearing similar outfits somehow made Jenner an amalgam of actual Latina women.
Naturally, Latina Twitter was NOT having it.
To be fair to the article’s author – who has since turned her Twitter account private in the wake of the uproar– she may not have been responsible for that headline.
More than anything, we just wish PopSugar hadn’t wasted their time. Because no offense to KJ, but there are other cool Latinas that deserve the shine.
