Latina Equal Pay Day (LEPD) is held annually based on how many days into the calendar year a Latina must work to catch up to her white, non-Latino male counterpart. The exact date varies as it depends on Latinas gaining or losing cents to every dollar earned by white men. Latinas are paid 55 cents for every dollar made by a white male. That’s over $1 million in earnings kept from a Latina throughout her career. This year it took Latinas nearly 22 months to earn what their white male peers earned in 12 months.

A 2019 Lean IN poll found that nearly one in three Americans aren’t aware of the pay disparity Latinas and white men. This lack of awareness is detrimental to equality for Latinas who deserve equal pay, equal work, equal power, and equal rights now. The pay disparity starts early–not even children are exempt from gender and racial or ethnic discrimination. The poll found that 16-year-old Latinas are paid less than white boys of the same age.

Here are seven events happening on Latina Equal Pay Day, Thursday, October 29th, 2020, to attend to learn how to advocate for equal pay, analyze the wealth gap, and take the necessary steps to close the pay gap.
