When the legendary Rita Moreno stepped out on the stage at the Screen Actors Guild Award on Sunday night, she received a standing ovation. And though she expressed gratitude after the outpouring of support from her peers (“Oh my God. That’s a lot of love”), Moreno came to talk about her long-time friend, Morgan Freemen, the night’s life achievement award honoree. Throughout her introduction and his speech, the two proved they are friendship goals and the best part of the show.
When Morgan tried to begin addressing the audience, Rita interrupted by going full abuelita on him. “Morgan, lift up your hat! Lift it up!” she said. “There we go. Now they can see you.”
In honor of their hilarious moment, check out a few videos and photos that document their decades-long friendship:
Rita sing The Menu Song on The Electric Company
In 2011, Rita said Morgan made her time at The Electric Company memorable. “Morgan was the highlight of my time there,” she told TV Guide. “We would break each other up terribly. There are a couple episodes where you can see us trying desperately not to laugh.”
Rita recites a poem she wrote for Morgan
“And of course working with Morgan was always the highlight of my workday,” she said at the AFI Life Achievement Award show. “Elegant, smooth, cool, and sexy. That’s how I’ve always envisioned Morgan, so Morgan I wrote this just for you. I’ve never written anything in my life. This is my little love letter to you.”
She and Morgan revisited The Electric Company
In 2014, Rita received the Lifetime Achievement Award from SAG, and Morgan introduced her. Before she got into her speech, she and Morgan broke down SAG-AFTRA in the same way they did back when they starred in The Electric Company.
