With commencement season underway, graduates are reflecting on the last few years of school. As some post about their challenges or share images of themselves in their caps and gowns, people have started to use the #firstgeneration hashtag to deliver tear-jerking messages about their journey through college. Being the first in your family to attend and graduate college is not an easy feat. These institutions are often not equipped to support first-generation students. But with the help of their families and other loved ones, they have found success.
