Fernanda Torres Should Wear This Brazilian Brand to the Oscars

The Brazilian actress Fernanda Torres works with stylist Antonio Frajado, who seems to know her taste inside and out. And as a fashion journalist, who recently partnered with Remezcla to discuss Colman Domingo’s potential Oscars looks, now I’m back to suggest what Fernanda Torres should wear to the 2025 Academy Awards, where she’s nominated for Best Actress for her powerhouse performance in I’m Still Here.
Torres looks comfortable and commanding in every outfit she’s worn while promoting her film, from Burberry power suits to the custom Olivier Theyskins gown she unveiled at the 2025 Golden Globes. She favors luxurious fabrics, strong shapes, and neutral colors. But within that realm, she’s not afraid to take risks, like the bold open back on her Globes gown, and we need that energy from more women of every age.
Here’s everything I think Fernanda Torres could — and should — wear to the 2025 Oscars.
Karoline Vitto
No one reps their country like a Brazilian, and Brazilian-born, London-based designer Karoline Vitto is a perfect match for Torres even beyond their shared homeland. The up-and-comer creates evening wear that highlights the female form with cutouts and silver wire accents. I’m sure she’d be thrilled to create a custom look for Torres in the vein of this stunning black gown.
Iris Van Herpen Couture
If Torres wants an outfit that’s as groundbreaking as her Oscar nomination, this Iris Van Herpen Couture Fall-Winter 2024 look checks off all her boxes — long sleeves, expertly-draped chiffon, a peek of skin. Maybe she’d want to add a black layer underneath and shorten the sleeves slightly so they don’t drag on the ground, but I’d love to see her with a train of chiffon from both arms if she’s open to it.
Chanel Couture
best-dressed guest at the Chanel Couture Fall-Winter 2025 show. Since then, she’s worn the brand to the Santa Barbara International Film Festival and a
BAFTA party, so a Chanel Oscars look is a strong possibility. I can picture her in this billowy gown from the latest couture collection, especially if she wore a full-length black slip underneath. Plus, it has an open back, which screams Fernanda Torres to me.
Bottega Veneta
She’s clearly partial to black, but every once in a while, Torres opts for a
crisp, white ensemble. The Oscars are the perfect opportunity to switch things up again. She’s worn Bottega Veneta often on the press tour for I’m Still Here, and I know she’d appreciate the structure and texture of this spring-summer 2025 look. Her stylist could further Fernanda-fy it with opaque black stockings and pointy sling-back heels.
Archival Celine by Phoebe Philo
Torres is one of the few celebrities to wear a custom look from the elusive designer Phoebe Philo, who served as Creative Director of Celine until 2017. This gown is from Philo’s last collection at the house, and like Torres, it’s timeless. The movement of its fringe-layered hem is practically made for a red carpet photo opp.
