Halloween 2023 is right around the corner, and depending on how obsessed you are with the spooky holiday, it’s probably time to start planning a costume that is going to turn heads faster than that possessed little kid in The Exorcist.

If you’re looking to dress up as a Latine character or character played by a Latine actor from film or TV, you have some options. So, whether hitting up a Halloween attraction like Universal Studios The Last of Us or a party, here are seven costumes you should consider wearing when going trick-or-treating this year.

1

Blue Beetle

Thankfully, there’s an easier way to become Blue Beetle than have a Scarab attack your face. You can just buy the costume, and wear it with pride since the character is the first Latino superhero with their own movie. As cool as you’ll probably look, don’t try to fly off any rooftops like Xolo Maridueña.

2

Wednesday Addams

While we’re sure a lot of teen girls will dress like the stylish title character in M3GAN, you can get much more fashionable than Wednesday Addams, the title character of the hit Netflix series from Tim Burton. Add a severed hand on your shoulder and learn the “Goo Goo Muck” dance, and you’ll be ready for a fun night.

3

Miles Morales

As much as your kid begs you to let them crawl on the walls or the side of a building, don’t let them do it. There are other ways to have fun as the Miles Morales version of Spider-Man. First thing, buy a bunch of cans of silly string and spray anyone who says Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man is the best Spider-Man.

4

Princess Peach

The princess in the Super Mario Bros. Movie is voiced by Argentine-British actress Anya Taylor-Joy, who did a great job battling King Koopa alongside brothers Mario and Luigi. If you want to be Princess Peach, make sure your dress (or motorbike jumpsuit) is pink and your crown is straight. And hope you get more chocolate bars than apples (or peaches) in your Jack-o-Lantern.

5

Supergirl

Sasha Calle held her own as Supergirl in The Flash, so there’s no surprise that plenty of Supergirl Halloween costumes will be flying (no pun intended) off the shelves over the next few weeks. Bonus points if you can actually shoot lasers out of your eyes.

6

Joel Miller

Pedro Pascal’s character in The Last of Us is awesome, but he needs someone special by his side. What better time to do a couples costume than as Joel and the Clickers he fights on the show? Initially, it seems a little impossible, but there are tutorials on YouTube that will turn heads when you enter a Halloween party in your post-apocalypse-ready costume.

7

Batgirl

Unfortunately, the Batgirl movie starring Leslie Grace never made it to the movie theater or a streaming service, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make the DC superhero come to life on your own. Show Warner Bros. Discover CEO David Zaslav what he missed when he shelved the project last year and make Barbara Gordon proud!

This piece was written during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Without the labor of the writers and actors currently on strike, all of these movies and TV shows being covered here wouldn’t exist.
