Here’s How People Are Reacting to the First Look at a Teenaged Dora the Explorer

It’s been three months since we learned that 16-year-old Peruvian actress Isabela Moner will be strapping on Dora’s backpack for the Michael Bay live-action take on Dora the Explorer. Now, we’ve got the first look at Moner as a teenaged version of the beloved animated character.
In a photo Moner shared of herself on the film set in Australia, we can see that the character is apparently still sporting the same outfit and haircut as the 7 year-old Dora.
Dora the Explorer was the first major Latina character many young adults saw on television, and it’s been unclear how the show’s loyal fans would respond to the character’s teenage makeover. So far, reactions are mixed – with some excited to see the multi-cultural franchise expanding, others simply baffled, and a good amount of Michael Bay action movie jokes thrown in for good measure. (Let’s not forget Funny or Die’s prescient 2012 spoof of what a grown up Dora would be like.)
Check out some of the reactions below.

Dora the Explorer hits theaters August 2, 2019.
Everything about this caption is absolutely hilarious to me. I seriously wasn’t ever expecting “Sicario” and freaking “Dora The Explorer” to be in the same sentence at any moment in this year https://t.co/QgoCs2kac6

I think the way they are going with that Dora the Explorer movie is a good idea. They picked a girl who is the age that the kids who grew up watching the show would be. The story itself sounds all cliche.

Latinx representation sits at just above 2% in on-screen speaking roles despite being the largest minority demographic.
A live-action Dora the Explorer movies produced by Michael Bay is what we get…..k.
