National Rum Day Is Your Sign to Stock Up on These Rums & Cocktails

header-cocktails-

National Rum Day is on August 16, and this year it falls on a Sunday, more of a reason to celebrate how you want if you consume alcohol. If you need to prepare for a BBQ, picnic, end-of-summer festivities, birthday, or holiday, this list will have everyone wanting more than one cup of what’s being served.

Rum is one of the most popular spirits in the Caribbean, made by fermenting and then distilling sugarcane molasses or sugarcane juice; the distillate, initially a clear liquid, is often aged in barrels. Rum originated in the Caribbean in the 17th century; enslaved people on sugar plantations likely created it, but today it is produced in nearly every major sugar-producing region of the world.

Rums serve many purposes; light rums are commonly used in cocktails like the Mojito and Daiquiri, while “aged” or “dark” rums offer deeper flavor profiles and are often drunk neat, on the rocks, or even used in meals. This list features ready-to-serve, fun, flavorful, and refreshing drinks for you to enjoy beyond the national day.

Whether you’re celebrating rum or another occasion, drink responsibly and enjoy it. Share which of these recipes or bottles become your go-to.
