The long MLB season is over, and that means the 2025 MLB playoffs are now here. But how do the playoffs work? Well, the league unveiled a new postseason format in 2022 that features six teams from the National League and six teams from the American League, for a total of 12 teams. Those teams play in rounds to make it to the World Series in a bracket-style postseason.

In 2025, 40.8% of players on Opening Day rosters came from diverse backgrounds, with 28.6% of those identifying as Latino. That means MLB has a significant contribution from our communities, particularly when compared to leagues like the NFL or NBA. So, heading to the postseason, there are quite a few names to watch.

To help you support players from our communities in MLB and their teams, we’ve put together a list of the top 8 Latino players to watch in the MLB postseason. Who will you be rooting for?

1

Luis Gil, Pitcher – New York Yankees

Dominican player Luis Gil, who won the American League Rookie of the Year Award in 2024, has been injured more than he has been healthy, but when he’s healthy, he’s a force to be reckoned with on one of the best teams in MLB. Could he be the guy who got healthy just in time to help his team win it all?

2

Vladimir Guerrero Jr., First Baseman – Toronto Blue Jays

Dominican-Canadian player Vladimir Guerrero Jr. needs no introduction, thanks to his father, Hall-of-Famer Vladimir Guerrero. But consider the numbers, too. Since 2021, he has made five All-Star appearances, two All-MLB First Team appearances, two Silver Slugger Awards, and one Gold Glove Award. Living up to the last name, for sure.

3

José Ramírez, Third Baseman – Cleveland Guardians

Dominican player José Ramírez is one of those steady, solid players who kinda sneaks up on you. A seven-time All-Star selection, a five-time Silver Slugger Award winner, and a three-time All-MLB Team selection, he helped lead the Indians to the World Series in 2016 and, in 2025, became the first Cleveland player to have 250 home runs and 250 stolen bases. Pretty solid numbers.

4

Aroldis Chapman, Pitcher – Boston Red Sox

Cuban player Aroldis Chapman is one of those pitchers we might appreciate more when he’s no longer pitching. A member of the 300 save club, Chapman is already the all-time leader in strikeouts for left-handed relievers. And he’s still pitching! Talk about iconic. He also currently holds the record for the fastest recorded pitch speed in MLB history, as well as the Guinness World Record for fastest baseball pitch.

5

Luis Castillo, Pitcher – Seattle Mariners

Dominican player Luis Castillo is a three-time All-Star, and though he has at times been slowed down by injuries, he’s the kind of player who can be decisive when he’s on. Nicknamed “La Piedra,” the pitcher is locked and ready to leave a mark in this postseason.

6

Teoscar Hernández, Outfielder – Los Angeles Dodgers

Dominican player Teoscar Hernández already knows what it’s like to win a World Series with the Dodgers, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t want another one. No, that means he really, really wants more. Hernández has won three Silver Slugger Awards and was an All-Star in 2021 and 2024. Now, he’s looking for another ring.

7

Willi Castro, Utility Player – Chicago Cubs

Puerto Rican payer Willi Castro plays everywhere; he can be a second baseman, a shortstop, and an outfielder, meaning he’s very helpful and versatile. The kind of player everyone wants. Castro made his MLB debut in 2019 with the Tigers and was named an All-Star in 2024 with the Twins.

8

Fernando Tatis Jr., Right Fielder – San Diego Padres

Dominican player Fernando Tatis is a very big and somewhat controversial figure, and one who is very famous not just for what he’s done but because of his father, Fernando Tatis Sr.. He’s been named to several All-Stars, won the Platinum Glove Award in 2023, when he was moved to right field, and made All-Star appearances in the last two years, 2024 and 2025.
