I can guarantee that if I ever saw the Final Five – the gold-medal winning Olympic women’s gymnastics team – live, I’d geek out. Winning nine medals at the Rio Games, Laurie Hernandez, Gabby Douglas, Simone Biles, Aly Raisman, and Madison Kocian set a US women’s gymnastics record. As a member of this group, Laurie’s seen her teammates perform their routines countless times. And yet, she’s still as excited as someone who just learned how talented Biles is.
On Tuesday, Simone took the mat for her floor exercise routine, and Laurie sent her positive vibes. Laurie cheered, clapped, and couldn’t stay seated as Simone performed. But in a clear sign that Laurie just admires Simone, the 16-year-old Boricua gymnast imitated the moves from the stands.
