Mexican music royalty Alejandro Fernández is going corridos tumbados with Natanael Cano. The Mexican artists teamed up for a new remix of Cano’s “Amor Tumbado.”

Cano first released “Amor Tumbado” as a single in February 2020. It’s his biggest hit to date, peaking at No. 8 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart. The original music video has over 60 million views on YouTube.

Cano and his label Rancho Humilde have spent the past two years making corridos tumbados a leading genre in the regional Mexican music scene. In that time span, traditional crooners like Pepe Aguilar have beefed with Cano over the legitimacy of the tumbados. Aguilar eventually changed his tune and more of the OGs are taking notice like Fernández, the son of ranchera icon Vicente Fernández.

As if “Amor Tumbado” couldn’t sound better, Fernández gives Cano’s song a ranchera music update. Like with renewed energy, Fernández sings Cano’s heartbreaking lyrics with power alongside the 19-year-old. Their call-outs to each other at the halfway point is pretty epic. “Ayayay viejón!” Cano yells to Alejandro. Two generations of Mexican music come together for this fiery duet.

The music video for “Amor Tumbado” remix was shot in Fernández’s hometown of Guadalajara. The Mexican singers are joined on the roof by a full mariachi band.

Cano performed the song by himself at last night’s (April 15) Latin American Music Awards. He won the award for Favorite Regional Mexican Song for “Amor Tumbado.” Because he tested positive for COVID-19, Fernández accepted his Icon Award from home. In his speech, he spoke of family separations at the borders, saying “all families deserve to be together.”
