The 2022 MTV Europe Music Awards nominations were announced yesterday (Oct. 11). Bad Bunny and Rosalía are holding it down in multiple of the top categories for Spanish-language acts.

Spanish artist Rosalía is the most-nominated Spanish-language artist this year, with five nominations. She is tied with Nicki Minaj as the third most-nominated artist overall, behind Harry Styles and Taylor Swift. Rosalía faces all the aforementioned acts, including Adele, and Beyoncé in the Best Artist category.

Bad Bunny received four MTV EMAs nominations this year. His global hit “Me Porto Bonito” with Chencho Corleone and Rosalía’s “Despechá” is going head to head with tracks from Lizzo, Minaj, Styles, and Jack Harlow in the Best Song category. “Me Porto Bonito” is also nominated for Best Collaboration. Shakira’s “Te Felicito” featuring Rauw Alejandro is the only other Spanish-language song in that category.

In the Best Latin category, Bad Bunny, Rosalía, and Shakira face competition from Anitta, J Balvin, and Becky G. At the MTV EMAs, Latine artists are also recognized in categories that are divided among different regions of Latin America. The Best Latin American North Act category is dominated by artists from Mexico like Danna Paola, Kenia Os, Natanael Cano, and Santa Fe Klan.

In the Best Latin American Central Act category, Venezuelan singer Danny Ocean faces Colombian acts Karol G, Feid, Manuel Turizo, and Camilo. The Best Latin American South Act category features all artists from Argentina, like TINI, Bizarrap, María Becerra, and Tiago PZK.

In the Best Caribbean Act category, Natti Natasha is the sole Dominican artist nominated. Her competition includes Puerto Rico’s Bad Bunny, Myke Towers, Rauw Alejandro, and Daddy Yankee. There’s also the Best Brazilian act category that features Anitta and Gloria Groove.
