One of the entertainment world’s worst habits is pitting women against each other, and rappers Cardi B and Nicki Minaj have not been immune to the public portraying them as bitter rivals. Earlier this year, Minaj seemed to suggest that there was at least partial truth to rumors of a feud when she revealed to Beats 1’s Zane Lowe that some of bad blood had to do with feeling unacknowledged by Cardi back when the pair collaborated on “Motorsport.” Since then, both women have told media outlets that they cleared the air.
However, tensions seemed to have surfaced again—and reached a breaking point—this weekend when reports emerged of an altercation between the two at New York Fashion Week’s Harper’s Bazaar Icons party at the Plaza Hotel. In a video released by TMZ, Cardi can be seen lunging toward Minaj and yelling, “Bitch come here!” while being held back back by her security detail. Then, Cardi takes off a shoe and throws it directly at Minaj. She misses but because Cardi isn’t a quitter, she throws her other one.
Cardi was eventually escorted out of the party and photographed with a giant bulge above her right eye, reportedly from being elbowed by one of Minaj’s security guards. Minaj allegedly left the quarrel unscathed and blew kisses to crowds as she exited the hotel. She has not addressed anything publicly.
Cardi, on the other hand, posted a lengthy Instagram message that sheds some light into the clash. Cardi gave birth to her daughter Kulture earlier this year and indicates in her post that the squabble may have had something to do with Minaj reportedly commenting about her child.
“I’ve let a lot of shit slide! I let you sneak diss me, I let you lie on me …” she wrote, continuing, “But when you mention my child, you choose to like comments about me as a mother, make comments about my abilities to take care of my daughter is when all bets are fuckin off!!”
Sources told TMZ that Cardi approached Minaj’s table simply wanting to talk to her about “the lies Nicki was spreading.” The situation appears to have escalated after Cardi got elbowed in the face, and things went haywire from there. The whole drama is straight out of your favorite telenovela, but as juicy as all the chisme is, we’re still bummed that two of the reigning women in rap aren’t getting along.
