Despite the year barely kicking off, festival season is around the corner! On Jan. 17, the R&B and hip-hop Lovers & Friends festival revealed its lineup for its second iteration – and it’s epic. The event includes stars like Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey, and Miguel. Pitbull, Frankie J, MC Magic, and Lil Rob are also part of this year’s star-studded fest that will take place at the Las Vegas Festival Grounds on May 6.
The massive event will have more than 45 performers that will participate in one day across multiple stages. Besides Carey, the nostalgic event will also be headlined by Missy Elliott and Usher. Other confirmed performers include big names in hip-hop like 50 Cent, Nelly, Sean Paul, and Boyz II Men. Additional artists that will be performing are Shaggy, Bow Wow, Lil Kim, and Soulja Boy.
Social media users across the platforms are praising the throwback lineup’s talent roster. An Instagram user thegreatestalexander_ wrote: “Y’all line up is always top tier. How y’all get Mariah to agree to festival!?” A Twitter user wrote: “I’d rather go to Lovers & Friends than Coachella for sure. That line up is crazy.”
Last year’s inaugural Lovers & Friends festival was a two-day spectacle. However, things didn’t pan out as expected–there were reports of chaotic incidents that left concert-goers trampled, as well as a false gunshot alarm. While we don’t know if the organizers will add a second date this year, we hope that they’re more prepared and that these types of situations don’t occur in May.
