It’s been 30 years since Cypress Hill started making history in hip-hop, and now Sen Dog, DJ Muggs, B-Real and Eric Bobo have another reason to celebrate. The legendary hip-hop crew is getting its own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will honor Cypress Hill with the 2,660th star on the famous sidewalk. According to a press release, an induction ceremony will take place on April 18, with appearances by George Lopez and Xzibit.
Cypress Hill is the first Latino hip-hop group to receive the honor (Sen Dog, DJ Muggs, B-Real and Eric Bobo are of Cuban, Puerto Rican, and Mexican descent). They released their first album in 1991 and career-defining song “Insane in the Brain” three years later. Over the course of their 30 years as a group, they have helped pave the way for other Latinos in hip-hop, especially in Southern California’s rap scene.
Cypress Hill joins other Latino creatives who were recently honored on the Walk of Fame, including Guillermo del Toro and a posthumous award for Selena.
