Emiliano Aguilar isn’t just famous because of his father, Pepe Aguilar. Did you know Emiliano’s mother, Carmen Treviño, was also a singer? Not only was she a singer, but she was also an actress in the 1980s before getting involved with the Aguilar family.

Beyond the Aguilar Dynasty, Treviño was famous in her own right—she even opened for Mexican legend Juan Gabriel in the U.S. That’s because in the ‘80s, she was known as a popular singer and actress thanks to ballads like “Te Amo Así” and “Quiero Ser,” and also films like La Güera Chabela. She released three albums: Carmen (1988), Mejor que nunca (1993), and Historias (1997).

Though it’s not known exactly how they met, Treviño and Pepe both acted in films like La Güera Chabela, and eventually got together romantically. However, Treviño and Pepe’s romance lasted three years after they married in 1990, according to Univision. At this time, Emiliano was one year old, and she decided to step away from the spotlight to take care of her son. Later, Pepe would meet and marry Aneliz Álvarez, who would give birth to Emiliano’s half-siblings Aneliz, Leonardo, and Ángela.

Though the Aguilar Dynasty has historically been known to be private, the new generation, like Ángela and Emiliano, has changed the course of their family’s legacy. Nowadays, the Dynasty is frequently in media headlines, often involving alleged infidelity and family estrangement. In the latter subject, Emiliano has often called out Pepe for treating him differently from his siblings. His latest gripe involved the alleged poor treatment he received at the Billboard Latin Music Awards (Oct. 23), for which he blames Pepe, alleging that he ordered it. In a recent video, he called his father a “c*lero,” and warned the award show that they’ll regret their decision.

Despite the family drama, it looks like Emiliano and his mother are close. Though Treviño is mainly private and little is known of her whereabouts, Emiliano has talked about his mother’s thyroid cancer before. He has also recently posted photos of her with a sweet message. “Let me introduce you to my mother. She could have been a big name in music, but she sacrificed her career to raise me,” he wrote. “She was both mother and father until my stepfather joined the family. And if you don’t believe she’s awesome, listen to her songs on Spotify.”

To this, Treviño replied: “Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your lovely comments. They made me feel bittersweet nostalgia, thinking about what could have been but wasn’t, and sweet nostalgia, remembering unforgettable moments.”
