When L.A.’s DJ Nu-Mark teamed up with our favorite borderline Latino, Will “Quantic” Holland, magic happened. These world-renowned DJs and record diggers have an open ear for foreign sounds, and have picked up actual instruments and produced original music of their own.
On “Tropicalifornia” they excel at both. They played the instruments, sampled them, looped them, and edited them in the way a DJ would. The result is inevitably funky fresh and so is the amazing video that comes with it, edited in a similar manner. “Tropicalifornia” is part of a series of releases titled Broken Sunlight that DJ Nu-Mark, a former Jurassic Five turntablist, has been putting together recently and which is exclusively available on 10” vinyl (this one in particular was pressed in white wax, for all you vinyl fetishists).
DJ Nu-Mark is so confident of the irresistible allure of this beautiful 10” that he’ll even give you the MP3 for free, or just in exchange for your email address. Now that’s a marketing strategy I’d like to see other labels employ.
