Drake’s highly-anticipated headlining performance at Lollapalooza Brazil, originally slated for Mar. 26, never happened. On the day of the show, the Canadian rapper canceled his headlining slot that was to take place in São Paulo, Brazil — and fans had a lot to say about it.
Drake was supposed to headline Lollapalooza Brazil — which was attended by an estimated 302,600 fans throughout the weekend (Mar. 24 to Mar. 26) — on Sunday alongside Rosalía. However, he canceled on the day of the show through a press statement that read, “Due to unforeseen circumstances, Drake is without members of his sound and production team, essential for the Lollapalooza show in Sao Paulo. Drake was excited to perform for his fans in Brazil. Unfortunately, this is out of his control. Apologies.” The festival offered refunds and substituted the headlining spot with Skrillex.
To many people, this comes as no surprise since Drake has been cutting his performances short in Latin America. According to Tracklist, he canceled his show’s live broadcast during Lollapalooza Argentina (Mar. 17) minutes before it started. And despite being a headliner, he only performed for about 40 minutes.
Still, the festival-goers in Brazil were left upset at the artists’ cancellation. Live media reports from Lollapalooza Brazil showed the crowd swearing at Drake for his last-minute no-show. Social media users also uploaded video recordings of the crowd bad-mouthing Drake. To give further context, his hardcore stans even talked badly about the bitter situation.
On the other hand, fans chanted their gratitude for his cancellation since it gave them an unforeseen live performance by Skrillex. However, this still brings up the speculation that Drake doesn’t fully appreciate his Latin American fans. A Brazilian social media user claimed that the last time the Canadian rapper visited, he walked past fans at the airport, he didn’t want to eat their food or drink their water, and he mistreated everyone in the hotel he stayed at.
If that wasn’t enough to raise eyebrows at Drake’s recent behavior, he was also publicly recorded partying with 50 Cent in Miami, FL, just hours after he canceled his Lolla performance. Will he make it up to his fans in Brazil?
