DR, there’s a new editorial platform in town and it deserves all of your attention. Pardo is a Santo Domingo-based online space for collaboration and conversation focusing on music, arts, design, food, culture, and the place where they all meet. Creative agency Capital launched the space, which complements the editorial work of Retajila – creators of the Santo Domingo Pop Festival – and music website Discolai, which features writers dedicated to documenting Dominican music.
To celebrate its launch, Pardo put together the aptly titled Pardo Vol. 1, its first compilation – filled with our favorite Dominican artists, who also happen to be on the forefront of electronic music in the Caribbean country. Included in Pardo Vol. 1 are MITEL DICO associates Diego Raposo and Seyer, electronic dembow queens MULA, palo-meets-deep house trio Estación Sub_Trópico, and two young electronic music promises: Adriel and Boundary. The release boasts three artists from the Point Records roster: Boundary, Seyer, and Diego Raposo.
The limited edition six-track compilation – two of them previously unreleased – serves to document the current healthy state of Dominican Republic’s local scene, and it’s pressed in beautiful purple vinyl and won’t be available for purchase.
