Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” is a really fun song, I think we can all agree on that, especially the Muppets version. Federico Aubele’s “Bohemian Rhapsody in Blue” on the other hand, not so much fun.

Not that that’s necessarily bad, the song wasn’t meant to be entertaining, even if dreaming about erotic encounters with a disco-ball girl, as the video suggests, sounds entertaining to you.

Overall the song, with its trippy down-tempo beat and the baritone bedroom voice of Fede, reminds me a lot of Music To Make Love To Your Old Lady By, an unfairly overlooked album by Lovage, a side project of Dan Automator and Mike Patton that with time achieved some sort of cult status. And that used to be one of my top five desert island albums back when it came out and to this day, every once in a while, I still play it.

So, by transitive property, I should love “Bohemian Rhapsody in Blue” and honestly the song is pretty cool but I watched this video many times and I always either get sidetracked by other stuff or fall asleep. I can’t quite point out the reason for this, but I think it lies somewhere between the excessive use of tiny shiny mirrors and that dancing hippie silhouette.

Maybe you don’t agree. Watch Federico Aubele’s “Bohemian Rhapsody in Blue” below.
