In a recent interview with the Grammy Museum for their Programs at Home series, FKA twigs revealed the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic hasn’t stopped her from being productive, as she has completed the vast majority of an entire album during the quarantine.
“I just said ‘You know what, I’m going to make an album,’ and I just went and did it,” the 32-year-old Mercury Prize-nominated artist shared to the Grammy’s moderator Scott Goldman on the virtual chat, right before revealing that she tapped Canarian producer El Guincho to handle most of the production duties on her third album and follow-up to her 2019 full-length MAGDALENE.
“It was really amazing because I worked predominantly with an amazing artist and producer called El Guincho, and I did the whole thing with pretty much all of the collaborators over FaceTime,” she explained. “I was getting beats and having to work from MP3s, and then I would writing melodies in the day with [El Guincho] and then in the night I would call some of my friends in America who made music and I would have a glass of wine and chill and write lyrics and talk about what the song’s about.”
El Guincho, a.k.a. Pablo Díaz-Reixa, jumped to notoriety in 2008 with his second album Alegranza, and he has become better known for his work producing other bands and artists, most notably Rosalía and her breakthrough album El Mal Querer, which earned him several Grammy and Latin Grammy awards. He was recently nominated in the Producer of the Year category on this year’s Latin Grammys. There’s still no name or release date for his new project with FKA twigs.
