BB Johnson of Puerto Rican hip-hop trio Füete Billëte has been reworking some old reggaeton hits from Farukko and Yaga & Mackie, and it’s working. Missing is the reggaeton beat that was inescapable during the genre’s mainstream popularity in the mid 2000s, replaced with more contemporary sounds of synth and trap. The vocals have been reworked as well, sounding a lot like Future’s auto-tuned singing. There’s also a reworking of Ciara’s “Promise” on his SoundCloud that deserves a listen. BB Johnson has been at it for the past few weeks. Let’s see how long this ‘trapeton’ mini-project lasts.
