One good way to start the new year is to play catch-up (what with everything still being a tad slow in getting started) with anything you missed last year. Case in point: Chulius & The Filarmónicos.
The band is the solo project of Julio Briceño, singer of Los Amigos Invisibles. His debut album Shorts & Sandals came out late last year but no one noticed because:
a) Los Amigos Invisibles released an album last year
b) they toured extensively to promote it
c) they were also nominated for a Latin Grammy for said album (which they lost to fellow countrymen La Vida Bohème)
Now, finally, the smoke has cleared and the time is right for this star to shine! “Leita” is the only Spanish-language track on the album (the rest are in English but don’t let that stop you from enjoying it) and is an outer space disco trip with Gil Cerezo (Kinky) and Sasha Bubblegum. The rest of the album is just as good, hell, even better than this. Compadre, saca la comadre!
