Free Download: Mitú’s “Mercedez" + Video [COL]

After the 2012 release of their debut album, Potro, Mitú’s Julián Salazar (Bomba Estéreo guitarist) and percussionist Franklin Tejedor haven’t stopped for a second to breathe and, frankly, I’m glad they haven’t. They’re currently making the rounds in Europe with their ritmo-techno-palenquero and now, for your listening and viewing pleasure, they’ve just released the video for the superb single “Mercedez.”

While the song’s north-meets-south mixture of old-school techno, analog synths, and traditional San Basilio de Palenque drumming makes for a fantastic body high on the dancefloor, the video might take a while to grow on you. In the first few frames, you get to see a young woman (presumably Mercedez?) contemplating something off camera. This slow build up is basically what you’ll get throughout: Mercedez walking through various beautiful, colonial streets, surrounded by colorful smoke and responding to it through various emotional states. “Dime que sí, Mercedez” goes the playful refrain. I think Mercedez already said yes, guys.

It might not seem like it at first, but the video goes perfectly with the track’s chill-out vibe. It’s hypnotizing to watch this woman go through the motions, exactly as the song does. You might just find yourself returning to it again and again, wishing you were walking through those streets with her. Obviously, with Mitú as your soundtrack, you can do no wrong.
