Ten years ago Nickodemus started his own record label with the intention of releasing his and his friend’s music, the eclectic funky music played at the Turntables On The Hudson parties. He named his label after Coney Island’s Wonderwheel, where he spent his summers during the late ’80s.
Although it’s not strictly Latin music, Wonderwheel’s catalog includes many of our all-time favorite Latin-flavored dance floor tunes (like his collaboration with Quantic in the 2005 classic “Mi Swing Es Tropical”). More recently, Wonderwheel added to its diverse roster some dope Latin American acts like Peru’s Novalima and Argentina’s Tremor.
Celebrating the label’s 10th anniversary, Nickodemus himself put together a “time capsule” selection of some of the best tracks ever released by his label and shared it with his followers in the form of a blog on the label’s Web site, with liner notes sharing a little bit of gossip about each track. Top quality music available for free for a limited time, so don’t sleep on this one.
