LOS ODIO! –

“PELOS EN EL MOUSE”

We don’t know too much about Los Odio! other than it being a “side project” that started with Fobia‘s guitarist and producer, Paco Huidobro.  It wasn’t until he decided to perform alongside Jay de la Cueva (Titan, Moderatto) and Tito (Molotov) in the Vive Latino Festival in 2007, that the band was introduced to the public.  That year, they shared the stage with other big music bands such as Calle 13, Zoé and Kinky.  They finally finished recording new songs and their new self-titled album, Los Odio!, will be in stores this week.

DJ TURMIX-

“FANIA PODCAST”

Yes, old school Fania is getting new school with all their whole collection now digitized.  With a complete listing of all their music and artists, online shop, radio, podcast and even a blog on Fania.com, there no longer is an excuse to know the record label that launched the salsa movement in New York City in the 70s.  In this Turmix mix, we hear the classics, like Tito Puente, Bobby Valentin, Ray Rodriguez, among other boogaloo and salsa gems.

Originally from Spain,  DJ Turmix has spent over 19 years spinning records in Europe.  Not even completing a full year here in the U.S., DJ Turmix has established residency at Bembe in Brooklyn where he mixes his specialty: tropical boogaloo, funk, house, jazz and Afrobeat. Listen to the podcast and take a look at the full playlist at Fania.com.

CHICO MANN-

“THE SELECTOR “

From Jersey City, Chico Mann (pronounced “maeng”, a lo cubano), was exposed to the Latin music from an early age, as his father was the owner of a Latin record label based in Hell’s Kitchen in New York City. Part of Antibalas Afro-beat Orchestra, some have described his music as attending an “80’s late night party with Fela Kuti and Fania All-Stars” at the turntables.  Maeng is now working on getting an album recorded under the name Trickster for Kids.  Which, by the way, could use some funding with the help of you, the fans.  Check out this link to learn more about making a donation, which could include concert tickets and having dinner with Chico Mann himself! Always keeping himself busy, check out his 10-minute “music video short film” on youtube.com.

Upcoming Shows:

Nov 14: New York- Public Assembly
