Fuerza Regida is back with a new sound. On July 25, the Mexican-American group unleashed their newest album Pero No Te Enamores. The result? A record spanning genres like música mexicana, reggaeton, and EDM – highlighting their newest subgenre they call “jersey corridos.”

In a media listening party last month (June 25), Fuerza Regida’s vocalist Jesús Ortiz Paz said that the album is different because the group is getting out of their comfort zone. This idea was thought of back in February, particularly to avoid saturating the market with the same sounds.

One of the ways to get out of their comfort zones was by meshing EDM and their música mexicana sound. After recording a song with Peso Pluma and Marshmello that never came out, Ortiz wanted to continue the EDM vibe with the American DJ. The result ended up being their hit EDM banger “HARLEY QUINN,” which would inspire the new jersey corridos on this new album.

“That’s where jersey corridos were created,” Ortiz, aka JOP, said about the subgenre’s creation. “I remember Moi was in the booth, he was playing the tololoche regular, and I was like, ‘Nah foo, we’re going to follow the [beat of] jersey corridos.’”

He continued: “I remember Marshmello was like, ‘Nah,’ — he didn’t want to put ‘jersey’ ‘cause he said it was burnt out, and I was like, ‘Not for us Mexicans! It ain’t burnt out!’”

This new jersey corrido sound inspired songs like “BELLA” and “SECRETO DE VICTORIA.” Other EDM-tinged songs include the jersey club jam “BRITNEY” and the collaboration with Major Lazer and Brazilian DJ Alok “SOFIA.” The also worked with Afrojack for the rave-ready anthem “FVCK.” Other standout dance and house-inspired songs include “TUQLO” and “NEL.”

Moreover, another notable track is the club banger “FRESITA” with reggaeton mexa singer Bellakath. “I am the only woman in the album of Fuerza Regida wooowww😭😍🙏🏻 Thanks JOP,” she wrote online.

Though the album explores EDM, the group didn’t forget their day one fans. They made sure to include corrido tumbados like “JESUS,” “BELINDA,” and “PERO NO TE ENAMORES” for their “core fanbase.”

Up next, Fuerza Regida will continue their Pero No Te Enamores Tour today (July 26) in Atlanta, GA.
