Oh my goodness! Our besties over at Happy-Fi just released a full download of their summer compilation. My favorite track on the compilation has to be “La Niña (chattara edit)” by Meketrefe ft Priscila Malibue for its poignant snapshot of el D.F.’s sometimes annoying but very particular scrap metal and electronic collectors that drive around the city blasting, “Se compra colchones.” The electro-experimenters d3NdRON make me think of a through back to Beck’s early days on “Döppelgangers” while Mexican Dubwiser‘s “Revolution Radio” with Rocky Dawuni offers the definitive summer-tune, light, positive and revving with insurgent reggae inspiration. “No Me Dejes Así” is one of those poppy songs you won’t feel ashamed to blast at all hours of the morning, getting ready for work and driving around town. Malibu Cannibals offer an upbeat, trip-rock tune with a noisy journey to nowhere and back. Smith seems to be the only reference point for “Killing Time” by Buffalo Blanco. The Volture gives us “Antibalas,” a hovering track that circles around aimlessly with ambient elegance. This is definitely one of those compilations that piles on the best of every kind of sound in a tight little picnic basket. Take this one out with you on a road trip along the coast.
