On Tuesday morning, Helado Negro dropped a new video for his song “Seen My Aura,” from his 2019 album This Is How You Smile. The clip – which was directed by Jason Evans – accompanies Helado Negro’s joyful sound perfectly, with images of childhood innocence enjoyed by the pool.
Like many Helado Negro videos, this clip gives his nostalgic and at times jubilant sound a visual accompaniment for introspection. Not a lot happens in front of the camera, but that’s exactly how one can get lost in thought watching the short video.
The video came just as Helado Negro is preparing for Thursday night’s “Young, Latin & Proud” benefit show at Brooklyn venue Elsewhere, which will see the indie crooner accompanied by a 6 member ensemble, with performances by pysch-cumbia artists Combo Chimbita, La Orquesta Triunfadora, Kaina, Papi Juice and DJs Riobamba and Bembona. A portion of ticket sales will go to Make The Road NY – and organization working with immigrants in New York on social justice issues.
