The 2024 Grammy Awards took place last night (Feb. 5) at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, CA. Despite the lack of Latine representation, some artists from our communities ended up with Grammy wins last night.

This year, Karol G made history as the first Latina to win Best Música Urbana Album for her latest album, MAÑANA SERÁ BONITO. During her acceptance speech, she introduced herself as an artist from Medellín, Colombia, and thanked her fans for healing with her.

Another first-time Grammy winner is Peso Pluma, who took home his first gramophone for Best Música Mexicana Album (including Tejano) for GÉNESIS. Though he wasn’t present at the pre-telecast, where this category was awarded, he thanked his fans on social media. “Thanks to all of you who listen and support my music, today a dream came true, not only mine but of an entire team,” he wrote on X in Spanish. “I will continue to represent my country wherever I go !”

Other Latines who won this year include Gaby Moreno, who won Best Latin Pop Album for her album X Mí (Vol. 1). There was also a tie between Juanes’ Vida Cotidiana and Natalia Lafourcade’s De Todas Las Flores for Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album.

Moreover, Rubén Blades con Roberto Delgado & Orquesta’s Siembra: 45o Aniversario (En Vivo en el Coliseo de Puerto Rico, 14 de Mayo 2022) won Best Tropical Latin Album, and Miguel Zenón & Luis Perdomo’s El Arte Del Bolero Vol. 2 won Best Latin Jazz Album. Colombian duo 123 Andrés also won Best Children’s Music Album for their LP We Grow Together Preschool Songs, and Gustavo Dudamel’s “Adès: Dante” won for Best Orchestral Performance.

The winners of the award show’s main “Big Four” categories were: Taylor Swift for Album of the Year for Midnights; Miley Cyrus for Record of the Year with “Flowers”; Billie Eilish for Song of the Year with “What Was I Made For?” (from the motion picture Barbie); and Victoria Monét won for Best New Artist.
